FAQ Questions About Inner Wheel
Can someone be a member of more than one Club?
No. A person cannot be a member of more than one Inner Wheel Club at the same time.
What is an Honoured Active Member?
This status may be given to a member who has offered exceptional service to her Club and to Inner Wheel. It is a mark of respect. The Club pays her dues in the year the honour is awarded, and after that she keeps the status but pays her own dues.
Can someone rejoin Inner Wheel if for any reason they have to leave?
Yes. Former members are entitled to rejoin and should be warmly welcomed back.
What generally should happen on Inner Wheel Day?
January 10 marks World Inner Wheel Day, celebrating the beginning of the organisation. Members are encouraged to mark the day through service, celebration, and remembrance of fellow members around the world.
What is a National Representative?
A National Representative links the Districts in her country with International Inner Wheel. A country with one or more Districts and at least four qualifying Clubs may elect one.
What are the qualifications for National Representative?
In countries with a National Governing Body, she must be a Past District Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, or Treasurer and have served on the National Governing Body for at least one year. In countries without a National Governing Body, she must have held one of those past district offices.
What are the qualifications for members of the International Governing Body?
Qualifications depend on the office. Senior roles such as IIW President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Board Director, and Constitution Chairman all require prior service in specific national, district, or international leadership positions.
What is the protocol for guests at meetings, and who takes precedence?
Precedence depends on the event type. Club, District, and National events each follow their own order of precedence, and in some countries civic dignitaries such as a Mayor may take precedence under local law.
Who can submit proposals to amend the Constitution?
Any Club may submit proposals to amend the International Basic Rules. For the Standard Rules relating to Clubs and Districts without a National Governing Body, only Clubs in that category may submit, second, speak to, and vote on proposals.
Why are the reserves in the IIW accounts so high?
The reserves mainly came from a London property sale in the 1990s and the interest earned afterward, not from capitation fees. They also provide contingency support for unexpected costs or emergencies.
Who replies to the Toast to International Inner Wheel?
There is no single universal rule because customs vary by country. However, if the toast is proposed by the most senior Inner Wheel officer present, no reply is usually needed.
How is the International Social Project chosen?
Districts submit suggested projects with background information to the IIW office. The Governing Body reviews the proposals and announces the selected project at the next Convention.
How is the Convention location chosen?
Countries wishing to host must prepare a detailed feasibility study covering venue, hotels, travel, and costs. The Governing Body reviews all bids, votes, and announces the successful location at the next Convention.
Who can be Proxy Vote Holders at Convention?
National Representatives, District Committee Voting Delegates, and the Official Proxy Vote Holder at Headquarters may serve. Certain past officers may also do so if elected as their Club or District Voting Delegate.
